Baja California 10 Days Adventure

Adventure trip 10 days dedicated to the discovery of central Baja California, where you will experience the extraordinary biodiversity so beautiful in this area. Remote beaches, multicolored deserts, breathtaking views, century old cacti and wonderful gray whales that you can meet up close.

Day 1 – January 15 2019

Our group will meet at the hotel in the morning and depart on a private boat to explore the beautiful island of Espiritu Santo, a UNESCO heritage site. Here you will experience what  Jacques Cousteau called “The World’s aquarium”. In about one hour we’ll arrive at a sea lion colony, and they often enjoy interacting with snorkelers, swimming curiously around us.  We’ll explore coral reefs teeming with multicolored tropical fish, and picnic on the beach. On the way back, you may see dolphins and whale sharks that live in the Bay of La Paz for much of the year.

Breakfast on our own – Lunch on the beach – Dinner on our own  – Lodging in a Hotel in La Paz

Day 2 – January 16 2019

We will begin our morning driving towards Loreto along legendary Highway 1. Along the way, we will stop occasionally in areas where you can admire the grandeur of the desert, ancient canyons carved by water, and the beauty of the centuries-old cacti. We take a wonderful path through the middle of a canyon to visit the best preserved mission of Baja California. In the afternoon we will be back in the south of Loreto Bay where will set up camp for the first night under the stars.

Day 3 – January 17 2019

The third day will be spent in Loreto, visiting the Loreto Bay National Marine Park and Isla Coronado, an island famous for its white beaches and lush marine life. We will visit a colony of sea lions and see many varieties of birds, often including the Blue-Footed Booby.  We will have a picnic lunch at a beautiful bay on the island where we can snorkel, returning to Loreto for a free afternoon to walk around the historic town, visit the first mission established in California in 1697, shop, and  have dinner at one of the great restaurants.

Day 4 – January 18 2019

In the morning, we continue our drive north, into the heart of Baja California. We’ll drive along Bahia Concepcion, a 25-mile long bay with many pristine white sandy beaches framing turquoise blue water, and pass through Santa Rosalia, a French colonial town which has been home to a copper mine since the late 1800’s. Continuing north, we’ll visit a beautiful valley with a forest of cardon cactus, and pass three huge dormant volcanoes, Tres Virgenes. The evening will be spent in San Ignacio, a small oasis town, originally inhabited by the aboriginal Cochimi people. Here there is another important mission: Mision San Ignacio Kadakaaman, founded in 1728, and still in daily use.

Day 5 – January 19 2019

In the morning, we will drive to the San Ignacio Lagoon, a UNESCO Heritage Site and the Gray Whale (Eschiritius Robustus) Sanctuary. This day will be dedicated to experiencing the wonderful whales that inhabit this lagoon to breed and give birth to their young. The relationship between humans and the whales in this Lagoon, that ran red with their blood just 100 years ago when they were slaughtered for their oil, has developed into a very special phenomenon over the last 35 years. They often come up to our boats to be petted, scratched, and to play with us.

Day 10 – January 24 2019

The reef is one of only three coral reefs on the west coast of North America and has been a national marine park since 1995. The colors of the reef are electric and it is the perfect place to snorkel, scuba dive, or just bask in the soft waters of the salty turquoise Sea. In the evening we will return in La Paz.
