Botswana Zimbabwe Adventure
Timeless Baja is excited to present our Botswana/Zimbabwe Adventure. This is a customized, or bespoke tour specifically designed for our small group, with personalized attention. It is to one of the best places in the world to experience animals in their own habitat, up-close-and-personal. If you are interested in a wildlife safari, then this trip is one of the very best you can find, anywhere, and more intimate. In addition, we’ll begin with some time in a little town most tourists overlook, Maun, in northern Botswana. Maun is fascinating for its glimpse into the Botswana culture, and that of some of the tribal people who live there. Then, after 9 days on one of the last real semi-luxury mobile safaris, we’ll arrive at Victoria Falls and stay at an historic, elegant Colonial inn right above the Falls. Please see the map, below, for the areas we will be traveling.
“A glimpse into the Okavango Delta, the largest undeveloped river basin on the planet, and where we begin our journey.
This is one of the last wild places on earth, and it gives us a unique opportunity to connect to who we really are…”
Wednesday, June 12, 2019
We will begin in the little town of Maun, in the north central part of Botswana, at the edge of the Okavango Delta, which is the largest inland delta in the world, and the 1,000th UNESCO World Heritage site. We will meet at our hotel on the Thamalakane River for our Welcome Dinner to get to know each other and talk about our Safari. Dinner and lodging included.
Thursday, June 13, 2019
Our local guide will give us a private tour of Maun, including some time with the Herero people, learning their way of life. Lodging and tour of Maun included. Meals on your own.
Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16, 2019
Our staff will pick us up after breakfast and we’ll start our great adventure by flying in a small Bush plane to our first camp site on the Khwai River, watching for animals as we go. This will give us a wonderful overview of the Delta, and an understanding of the route our mobile journey will take. We’ll be in the Moremi Game Reserve, a 1800 square kilometer area that is home to elephant, water buck, zebra, lion, leopard, tsessebe, lechwe, sitatunga, wild dog, and other animals too numerous to include here, as well as over 400 species of birds. We’ll spend the next three nights at our semi-luxury mobile camp in Khwai, a section of Moremi, and on the third day have an excursion on the Khwai river in a traditional carved mokoro. Breakfast on your own, lunch and dinner and lodging provided in camp. Mokoro excursion included. Bush plane transport to camp included.
Monday, June 17 through Wednesday, June 19, 2019
In the morning, our staff will dismantle our little village and go on ahead of us to set up our next camp in Savuti, a part of Chobe National Park that was named after the Savuti Channel which once fed into a great inland marsh. Tectonic activity has isolated Savuti from permanent waterways and the marsh has now developed into open grassland, surrounded by acacia woodland and Mopane trees.
The wildlife is dynamic in this section of the park especially the migration of zebras and the predators following them i.e. lions, hyenas and cheetahs. There are large herds of elephant, wildebeests, warthogs, kudus, impalas, crocodile and hippopotamus as well as the elusive Klipspringer antelope the aardvark and aardwolf and the endangered Wild dog in the Savuti Channel. All meals and lodging provided in camp.
Thursday, June 20 through Saturday, June 22, 2019
Again, our staff goes on ahead and sets up camp in Chobe National Park, which is named for the Chobe River and is 11,700 sq. km. – Botswana’s 2nd largest reserve. Chobe has a larger concentration of elephants than anywhere in Africa (over 40,000), and it is not uncommon to find herds in excess of one hundred members. On one of our days here, we will have a boat excursion and lunch on the Chobe River. The original inhabitants of this area were the San bushmen (known as the Basarwa people in Botswana). They were nomadic hunter-gatherers and left some rock art in the area. All meals and lodging provided in camp, lunch river cruise included.
Sunday, June 23 through Tuesday, June 25, 2019
We arrive in Zimbabwe, and make our way to Victoria Falls, where we will stay in a 5-star luxury hotel! This is a very famous, old Colonial hotel, frequented by all the great white hunters for more than 100 years. It is meticulously maintained and is absolutely stunning – the perfect place to really relax after a camping safari! We’ll be virtually on top of the Falls and can see its spray from the rolling lawns of the hotel (being closely manicured by wild warthogs). We will be here for three nights. We’ll have plenty of time to visit the Falls at our leisure and on our last day we will have a private excursion and lunch at the local Elephant Sanctuary and Orphanage on the beautiful Masuwe River. We will meet the elephants and be provided an opportunity to interact, feed and capture moments with the gentle giants as well as witness the special relationship our staff share with the elephants and become a part of it. Breakfast and elephant day excursion with lunch included.
